We started our day a bit late, but we were determined to fit in a bit more of the wonders from Monteverde, Costa Rica before heading back to NJ.

Our plan was to head back up the crazy dirt, bumpy road back up to Selvetura to do their Butterfly (Mariposa) tour and also their Sloth Sanctuary tour. We were able to do them back to back which was perfect. The Sloth tour was first. All of the 18 sloths at Selvetura are female and are there because they were either abandoned by their mother sloths or were injured in the wild. All of the sloths in this particular part of Costa Rica are two-toed sloths. When we went into the sanctuary, we were able to see each and every sloth in varying positions. From hanging upside down to bundled in a ball. Adorable and I loved them.

Then we were brught into the butterfly house. It was amazing. The blue morpho butterflies are even more radiant in person that what is depicted in other photos. The butterfly house had about 14 species of butterflies (though there are 1500 species of butterflies and 12,000 species of moths. Every single one that we saw while in the butterfly house was beautiful, colorful and in large quantity.

After lunch and a few coati sightings, we headed back down the bumpy road to head to the opposite side of town for our last taste of Monteverde ice cream. I wish we could bring it home with us. Then we went back to our hotel to check out. But just before it, Stephen and I stopped into the local bank to get denominations of Costa Rican colones for him to save. Wow, the banks are quite different from ours in the US. Just starting with security alone. The people at the bank were really nice to us and were really helpful despite our lack of Spanish. Even the patrons of the bank were helping us. I wish that I could see the same easily happening in the US...

After checking out of our hotel, we made our way to San Jose. So so so glad that we decided to head there tonight. I don't even want to think about what time we would have had to wake up if we left Monteverde the morning of our flight. Now we are off to bed and are gearing up to go home.

What an amazing trip. Learned a lot, experienced a lot and most importantly, had a wonderful time. We loved Costa Rica and definitely plan to return. Pura Vida is a wonderful way to live one's life. I look forward to making it a great part of mine and and for my sons.

Pura Vida!
